Christmas Morning

Our morning, which lasted all day into the evening, was quite delightful.

There were gifts…

for dad,
and for mom…

and the anticipation while parents where sleeping…

and then, one of the most waited events of the day...
no, not santa's arrival, but…

A skype from a missionary!

Isn't technology wonderful?

we linked skype to the tele and talked to Elder Carter for almost 2 hours.  We got to see his twinkling eyes, and hear his contagious laugh.  We even were serenaded by he and his companion Elder Konelio.  It was a wonderful duet of Silent Night.  Talk about Christmas cheer!

Then, a few more pictures to highlight the day.  Merry Christmas to you all.  We hope you are surrounded by those you love.

It was a wonderful day!

"UPDATED!!!! Remembering a funny story…

UPDATE! Roxanne found a picture of the Real star of this story, so I've included it. Ah, the memories....

Okay, the story surfaced again for some strange reason, so I thought I'd blog it for all to share in our anticipation 26 years ago...

Karen and I were newly married and living in Aggie Village.  It was cold that winter.  I just threw that in to  set the scene.  We had our little opel that was wired with speaker wire.  It got us around.  We frequented Smith's for food.  Anytime there was a drawing, we would enter with the hopes of winning.  One day we received a call saying we had won a bowl. We wondered at what type of bowl we had won.

Was it Metal, or perhaps even better crystal.  The man on the phone said something about a buddig bowl.  Was buddig a type of cyrstal?  Ah, the days before the internet, when you actually had to wonder what something was instead of googling it....
Well, I decided I had better drive down and collect our prize.  Wow, a bowl.  A bowl special enough to be a prize in a drawing.  The anticipation was driving us crazy.  Well I arrived at the store, asked for the man who had called me so that I could collect our treasure.  The man handed me a bag.  Inside was an inflatable bull.

Not a bowl, but a bull. We had won an inflatable Buddig Bull.  (Buddig being the brand of lunch meat.)  I laughed and laughed.  Then, when I arrived at home to deliver our treasure to Karen, I laughed again.  She kept asking, where's the bowl?  I said, It's a bull, not a bowl.  We still laugh to this day....

(This is the bull.  Roxanne googled and found it in a gallery of collectable inflatablesl!)

The Black and White Dance

On Saturday, November 14th Daniel went to the Black and White Dance with his friend April. They are both in Musical. After a very long all day of Musical rehearsal they went to dinner and then to the dance. They came home in between so I could see them and take pictures. Aren't they cute?! Check out their cool "painted" shirts they made for the dance!
Back view of the shirts. Daniel and April had a great time together. This was his first girls choice dance. He's pretty excited for more dances in the future. Also, the Musical starts this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Logan High School. It is "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." He plays the part of Twimble, the boss of the company storeroom who gets promoted only after 25 years of work. We would love to have you join us for the musical on Nov. 20, Nov 21, Nov. 23rd and 24th. Buy tickets here!

Who here doesn't know Christopher?

Today when we read Christopher's missionary letter I was reminded about the time I invited both Roxanne and Christopher to come to Laurel Training Camp and sing with me as I was a speaker for their evening activity.  I thought I would introduce Christopher before he sang.  I said to the girls "This is my son Christopher, then realizing that he went to school with many of the girls I asked "How many of you know Christopher?  Raise your hand if you know Christopher."  Hundreds of hands shot up.  Amazed I said, "Who doesn't know Christopher?"  One girl timidly raised her hand,  and said "I don't know him, but I just moved here."  So I introduced Christopher to her.

Christopher is still in Horizon, TX.  He is training a brand new missionary and having the time of his life.  This new companion is from Hawaii and sings too!  He has been serving as a district leader for the past few months, but has been released so he can concentrate on training.  He is teaching lots of people and some of them have chosen to be baptized soon.    We are proud of him.  He is working hard and loving every minute of his mission.  He has been out in the field nearly 8 months!

Recapping...

We have been a little negligent in posting to the blog, so here goes an attempt to revive our posts. This few pictures kind of recap a whirlwind of life. Fortunately the whirlwind is not visible in these pictures. We started out by visiting the alligators in Hagarman. (Yes, they do have alligators in Idaho...) Then, a magic show for Kristina's 11th birthday. Then we jump ahead to halloween with two of our favorite trick or treaters. (No, not the Nance family!) A visit by the Nance family with their newest addition. What a cutie. Then, an orchestra concert. It was a great concert. Lot's of fun and life.

Remembering

A story not to be forgotten…

Frank came over wednesday and while our daughters were being taught violin by the most excellent teacher around, we took a little time to recant a story from our home town. We remembered how a certain motorcycle club would venture out our way and stay across the street from where we lived. Our neighbor seemed to be a most hospitable fellow and welcomed his friends often. Choppers as far as the eye could see lined our corner. As a young boy, we had a certain "respect" for their space. One day, my father's edger and lawnmower went missing. My mother, with no fear of any one or thing, walked over to our neighbor to inform him of our loss. Our neighbor respected our mother, and so he talked with his guests. It was a miraculous event as more edgers and mowers than we ever owned appeared back at our house.
Part 2. When it come time to move our first grand piano, our neighbor's guests happened to be in town. My mother, again, walked across the street and asked, "Is there anyone here that can help?". Sure enough, one of our neighbors guests had moved pianos. He oversaw the entire process. So, the moral of the story, hold your head high, stand firm to your beliefs, and respect all persons. You never know who it will be that will come to your aid.
