Jaffa!

Monday, we went to Jaffa. Jaffa is the old part of Tel Aviv. And when I say old, I'm not talking 1700's... This place has been around for thousands of years! This is actually us with one of the newest buildings in Jaffa... an immigrants hostel, which kind of looks like a lighthouse.

There was a beautiful lookout point near the top of Jaffa. You could see Tel Aviv so clearly! There was a wishing bridge nearby, where you find your astrological sign, look at the sea, and make a wish. What a riot! :)

Earlier in the morning, we went to a flea market and had our first real experience of bargaining. We're improving, but are by no means professionals... yet!

Jaffa is supposedly the place where Jonah (as in Jonah and the Whale) caught a boat when he was fleeing to Tarshish. (In the bible, Jaffa is called Joppa...) I just want to know what kind of whale was floating around in the Mediterranean Sea...

Most of the streets are not accessible by car. Many of them are skinny stairways made of stone.

Jaffa is also where the home of Simon the Tanner is located. We couldn't go inside, because it is actually the home of the Zakabian family (don't know who they are, it was just posted all over the door). However, you can walk right up to the door, and look around at the little garden nearby.

Towards the end of the day, we walked back to Tel Aviv to catch a bus to Netanya. We saw surfers all along the coastline. It has been inspiration for my next adventure...
